PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Dr Anna Maria Auricchio
Education and Training
Dr Anna Maria Auricchio graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Second University of Naples in 2015 with the highest honours. She completed her specialist training in Neurosurgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart – Gemelli University Hospital in Rome, also graduating with honours.
At the same institution, she earned her PhD in Neuroscience with full honours, focusing on serum biomarker monitoring in subarachnoid haemorrhage. Alongside her research, she gained extensive academic, clinical and surgical experience across both spinal and cranial conditions.
She has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications in international indexed journals (H-index: 14) and actively participates in conferences and neurosurgical research.
Professional Experience
During her training, Dr Auricchio gained further experience at leading centres in Italy and abroad, including Gemelli University Hospital in Rome and Niguarda Hospital in Milan.
She subsequently received a European fellowship grant for clinical and research training in vascular and skull base microneurosurgery at Helsinki University Hospital, internationally renowned for Juha Hernesniemi’s work in cerebral aneurysm surgery. She then completed a fellowship at University Medical Center Utrecht, an internationally recognised centre for neuroscience.
During these fellowships, she developed particular expertise in the surgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and complex vascular disorders of the brain and spine, incorporating advanced technologies such as intraoperative ultrasound and exoscopic visualisation.
She also gained extensive experience in robot-assisted spine surgery at the Humanitas Centre in Turin.
She currently practises as a neurosurgeon at Pisa University Hospital (Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana).
